Captain Phillips My Thoughts

captain phillips“The true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years..”

I’m a fan of Tom Hanks and the hijacking boat spiked my curiosity and I must say it was a fairly good movie, according to online, most of the movie was close enough to the actual event. The actors especially Tom Hanks were able to to make the viewers feel all the emotions from a Captain trying to save his crew and his own life. The pirates were also well cast, not only did the ring leader could pass off as the twin of the actual pirate but his acting was also spectacular, you learned to hate him and even feel empathy towards him and some of the other pirates.
The visual effects were well done, the boats, the see, the navy, It felt all real. I did find the movie to be a bit long but do feel that it was necessary to understand and “live” the event well, It was intense and heartbreaking. You can tell that every details were carefully thought off, studied and crafted.

Definitely worth seeing although I won’t lie, I did end up fast forwarding a bit but the performance of Tom Hanks as Captain Richard Phillips and Barkhad Abdi as Muse makes it a must to watch.
